Michael was born on October 6, 1950, in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the eldest of four sons of Stanley and Luci Jakubowski. Michael is survived by his wife Arvee; daughter Andrea; son Jason; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brothers Jim, John, and Steve; numerous relatives and friends.
Michael attended two years at Los Angeles Harbor College before attending ITT-Tech to learn computer programing, then started his 39-year career at Los Angeles County in the I.T. Department and retired in 2017.
Michael, also known as Sifu Mike is a Kung Fu Master and Teacher. He started his martial arts training 40 years ago and is the 2nd generation Jeet Kune Do student under Dan Inosanto’s (Bruce Lee’s best friend). Michael’s motto is “ready always and always ready!”
Michael and his wife Arvee met at a seminar in Newport Beach in 2001 and married in 2015 on Maui and married again in the Catholic Church on their one-year anniversary in 2016. Michael loved Maui. He loved the sunsets, the water, and the cool ocean breeze. He called it “his home” and he and Arvee would frequently vacation there. He loved wearing Hawaiian shirts and shorts and on any given day you could find him basking in the sun or wading in his pool at home.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at 8:30am at Stone Funeral Home in Upland, followed by Catholic Mass at 10:30am at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Claremont, the interment will follow at Oak Park Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow at the home of Michael and Arvee. All friends and family are invited to attend and share their personal stories. In honor of Michael, we request you wear Hawaiian shirts and skirts. Aloha!
