

Milford "Mel" Owen Bunnell passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 5, 2016. he was born in Freeport, Illinois on March 28 1924. As a member of the Greatest Generation, Mel served his country in World War II and was honored to be youngest Chief in the Navy. he was recalled for the Korean War where he risked his life on a secret mission behind enemy lines. After the war, Mel went to work as a car salesman in San Diego and in 1966 he purchased his own dealership. Mel Bunnell Chevrolet in Pomona. In 1980 he purchased Enterprise Chevrolet in Upland and retired in 2000.
Mel was an avid golfer, fisherman, and private pilot, flying throughout the U.S. and Baja Peninsula. He had the good fortune to hit 4 holes in one, the last one at 89 years of age. He loved getting together with 4 generations of family at their Dana Point Beach house and in the mountains at Bishop. Mel's generosity of spirit leaves many cherished memories for all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Lucille, daughters Mary Susan Collett (Tom) and Christina Frost (Gary). Grandchildren Matthew Collett (Elyse), Melissa Ralston (Matthew), and Kaitlin Wittstrom (Chad). Great grandchildren Brady, Drew, Grace and Grace.
A private funeral service will be held on August 13, followed by a life celebration at 1 pm at the Red Hill Country Club where he was a member for 50 years.
