
Nancy was born on February 24, 1952, to Charles and Eunice Link in Wood River, IL. The family lived in East Alton, IL. Nancy attended Wood River High School graduating with honors. Nancy learned to play the piano and accompanied several of the high school choirs and singing groups.
She lived a life defined by compassion, creativity, and unwavering dedication to her family. Nancy's path intertwined with that of Eric Schlotthauer, and their love became a source of enduring strength and joy. On August 10, 1974, they were united in marriage in the Oakland California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they embarked on a journey marked by mutual love and unwavering support. They nurtured a family filled with love and laughter, raising two wonderful children, Christina and Jonathan.
Nancy received an Associate Degree in Office Technology and later attended Chaffey College where she received another associate degree this time in Spanish. Later she attended Cal State San Bernardino where she was awarded a Bachelor of Environmental Science. Nancy channeled her passion and expertise into a meaningful career as a Hazardous Materials Specialist for the San Bernardino County Fire Department. Her dedication and commitment to her work resulted in several promotions and worked closely with the State Fire Marshall’s office in drafting Hazardous Material Legislation.
Nancy's vibrant spirit found expression in various passions, from the melodious notes from the piano she played to the beauty of her crafts and sewing projects. She found joy strolling through botanical gardens, and the sights and sounds of several of the local County Fairs brought her immense joy. Yet, it was the thrill of travel that truly ignited Nancy's adventurous soul. She reveled in meticulously planning and embarking on family vacations, with Disney World, Hawaii, and cruise ship destinations holding a special place in her heart. She was a veteran of 30 cruises journeying alongside her beloved husband, it was a cherished joy that illuminated her life.
Nancy is survived by her devoted husband, Eric Schlotthauer, her loving children, Christina Mellinger (husband Matthew Mellinger) and Jonathan Schlotthauer (wife Juliana Schlotthauer), her cherished grandson, Maverick Schlotthauer, her brother Charles (Chuck) Link (wife Judie Link), and her nephews, Adam Link and David Link (wife Ally Link).
While our hearts are heavy with the profound loss of Nancy, her memory will forever be a beacon of love and inspiration. Her laughter, warmth, and unwavering love for her family will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
