

Raised in Chino, Richard graduated from Chino High School in 1964. He earned a purple heart, a green medal, and a bronze star while in the Army while serving in Vietnam. Back in California, he earned a B.S. in Biology and a teaching credential from Cal Poly Pomona. He married Stephanie Capps in 1980 and had a 45-year marriage with lots of love and adventure.
Richard began his teaching career as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher for the Upland Unified School District at Citrus Elementary in 1976. He later was a fourth grade classroom teacher at Baldy View Elementary and Pepper Tree Elementary. He ended his teaching career as an elementary itinerant Physical Education Teacher for the district in 2007.
In retirement, Richard and Stephanie were able to travel the world and visit all seven continents, always looking for their next adventure. They also volunteered with the USO at Ontario Airport for ten years. There were many happy times playing golf, tennis, and babysitting his grandchildren.
Richard passed peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, children Megan Sanchez (Marcos) and Sarah Doiron (Zachary), stepson Donald Sueoka (Theresa); and grandchildren as well as his beloved extended family.
Services will be held at Stone Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 25th at 10:30am. Burial will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 26th at 10:15am.
