Robert Canuto Rodriguez

Born in Refugio, TX on June 8, 1945, Bobby grew up alongside his 2 brothers and 4 sisters. As a young teen, his musical talent shined as he played bass guitar for Freddy Fender, who became a lifetime friend. Bobby lovingly sang Freddy’s songs all his life.

Bobby proudly served his country as an Army Sergeant, spending ten years in Vietnam (1967–1977) and three and a half years in Germany before his discharge in Arizona in 1980. In recognition of his courage and sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for valiant bravery in action — honors that stand as a lasting testament to his selfless service and the price he paid in defense of his country.

Bobby then moved to California, working as a dedicated security guard for many years. He continued his passion for music in the five-piece band, “Country Comfort,” where he met his lifetime friends, John and Joyce Rogers. Last but not least, he leaves behind his beautiful “Shirley Temple,” who gave her heart and soul to take care of him for months.

He is survived by his daughters, Delia and Shirley, his son Robert Rodriguez, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Today, we bid farewell to this giant of a man in heart and soul. We’ll miss you, Bobby. God rest your soul. Well done on earth.
