Alta Loma
Stella Vlastos, 95, known to many as Yaya, of Alta Loma, California, passed away in the comfort of her home on August 25, 2025. Born on the Greek Island of Crete on August 5, 1930, Stella Zolindakis journeyed to the United States in 1950 to marry Adonis Vlastos, and together they lived and worked in Brooklyn, New York. After moving to Southern California, she worked in sales at May Co., and then later as a faculty secretary at Pitzer College in Claremont. In retirement, Stella enjoyed reading; playing cards and backgammon (tavli); crocheting and knitting; watching baseball, basketball, soccer, and tennis; and she loved to travel. Above all, she loved being with her family. Stella was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Adonis; her daughter, Angela; her brother, George; and her sister, Archontoula. She is survived by her children, Katina and Harris Vlastos; her son-in-law, Bob Witt; her grandchildren, Adonis and his wife Allison, Micah, and Stella Zoe Witt; her great-grandchildren, Eloise and Vivienne; her sister, Lele Komna; and her nieces and nephews, Katerina (2), Chrysoula, Mary, Sotiris, Stelios, Alexis, and Jeffrey, and their spouses and children, all of whom she was very close to. Stella will be remembered for her unwavering love and loyalty to family, her courage and integrity, her sincerity and down to earth nature, her strong Greek roots, and for the best Yaya back scratches. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition (selahnhc.com), where her granddaughter volunteers.
