You were my first accounting professor and my most memorable. You always made class as enjoyable as possible with your amazing stories. I'm studying for my CPA exam now and relearning cost accounting and I can't help but think about my time in your class. You were an unorthodox teacher, but an amazing educator. Thank you for everything.

You don't know me however I was just looking up myself on line & came accros the obituary  of your steven. I read most all of it & I'm I'm truelly  touched. I'm very sorry for yer loss. He sounds like an incredible man. I could only hope people will talk about me that way wen I pass.

My business partner and I are both shocked and saddened by this news.

I first met Steve when I was attending Cal Poly in 2014.  I took his introduction Accounting class.   He was a great professor and did a fantastic job teaching this very dense subject.  It was in the classroom I told him that a friend and I were creating an Ice Cream start up company.  He took great interest in our business and told me that when the times comes to seek him out for tax help and financing.

In 2016 I graduated Cal Poly and went full time into the ice cream business in 2017.  Steve was one first people I reached out to for help and immediately signed him on as our accountant.  Every year when we would meet for taxes I would bring ice cream for him and his employee's.  His Favorite ice cream was Coffee Caramel Crunch, we always made sure we brought that flavor for him.  During our tax meetings he told me that when we were ready to finance bigger things to reach out to him.  He said that he would make it happen.  This is why we appreciated Steve, he always went the extra mile for us.

Steve was a very measured man, he always listened very carefully to everything you told him.  He would take his time with you and his responses to you were always very carefully crafted, like he was hand picking each word just for you.  

Steve wasn't just a powerful ally in business.  He was also a friend and a mentor.  We will miss him so very much.  So long my very astute colleague. 


I am still in shock that one of the most caring, loving and extremely intelligent person is no longer with us. Anybody that knows Steve understands what I am saying. He has been involved with our company for decades and has always cared about us as people and how to best navigate through complicated Business scenarios. What I was most impressed with is Steve’s ability to “dumb it up” for me as he had a unique ability to think through anything we encountered. He has touched the hearts of many professionals, students and friends and will be missed by all. 

It has been my great pleasure to have worked with Steve over the last five years. He was a brilliant man and had become a great friend. 

Recently in October, he joined me for a lunch in Fallbrook which I now cherish as a great memory of the friendship he and I had come to know. 

He always was there for anything I needed help on with the accounts they we worked on together and he always went above and be on.

I will truly miss him. 

I was lucky enough to work with Mr. Flores and got a chance to see what a great man he was.  The entire accounting department at Cal Poly Pomona will miss him dearly.

I am also in a bit of shock over hearing Steven's passing. Steven was my CPA for my business and my personal taxes for nearly 15 years. He was incredibly knowledgeable and very caring and very humble. We always talked about our families, motorcycles, and how to "minimize" taxes.  : )  He was both a mentor and a friend. I will will miss you Steven and make sure the "Man Above" does not over-pay on his taxes. : )  Love you man, David Preuss

For over 20 years, Steve was my accountant, my financial advisor and my tax guru, but most of all he was my friend.  One of the kindest and sweetest souls we will ever know.  Whenever we got together for business, we would spend at least half the time just catching up and talking about music, motorcycles and our families.  I admired how much he loved his family...that was always first on his mind.  He was also always interested in what was going on in my life and it was clear that maintaining that personal connection was most important to him, and thats a big part of what made him so special.  He loved his profession, and boy he was the best.  But he also loved his clients just as much and I am sure they all say the same thing.  I could go on and on...I am utterly heartbroken over this news.  Steve, I will miss you so much.  Love you man.  

Professor Flores was an amazing teacher, mentor, and friend.  I looked up to him in many ways and he made a huge impact in mine and many others lives at Cal Poly Pomona.  I took his class my second year at CPP and wanted to take him for every accounting class after that.  He had a passion for teaching and always had an open door policy.  I enjoyed his stories when he would talk about his family with the biggest smile on his face.  I was deeply saddened by this news and I give my deepest condolences to his family.  Rest in peace Professor Flores.

My husband Dave and I are so very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Steve did our taxes and like so many people who knew him you always had a great conversation.  Since my husband built Custom Cars - hot rods, Dave and Steve usually talked about cars.  A conversation with Steve was like having a conversation with an old friend, always interested in what was going on in your life at the moment.  Our condolences to Steve's wife, children, and grand-children.  Steve will never be forgotten. RIP

My family and I, like so many, were deeply saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. He was one in a million. My family and I could always count on him for financial advice and he was always a voice of calm and reason. I can’t think of a person I trusted more than Steve on anything tax related. Conversions would always pivot to our families and Steve was so proud of his posterity. He impacted so many lives and will be sorely missed by us all. Praying for both comfort and strength for his family.

 I worked side by side with Steve over the past  year and few months. We had a connection and had similar philosophies with business. I came to realize he was a Raiders fan and introduced this to his family. He spent time with grand kids and loved his family. I recall recently he showed me an award that his wife Sandy was honored with. He was a proud husband.    

His next passion was teaching which he did over 30 years. He did this recently and had no immediate plans to stop. He enjoyed everything about it. 

Boating was another passion he shared with family. 

Lastly he enjoyed cars driving a different one each day. Three that I am  aware . 

The pandemic was not easy for him. He enjoyed face to face which changed in March. He was frustrated by it and our companies bureaucracy 
which he did not enjoy. He was ready for a change just not this one.

He will be missed by all at our office . I was looking forward to having him teach our staff 
but, we did not reach that point but, we’re close. 

He was a man of principle who enjoyed teaching all that came before him. He wanted life to be simple as he was ready for this. He made an impact where went and was loved by his clients.

Steve was always a kind and helpful mentor to all of us at HP Communications. We are grateful for the life lessons and advice he shared with us. 

My fondest memories with Steve would be when we would meet to talk about business but actually end up talking for hours about cars and life. 

I truly appreciated his friendship and guidance he has given HP Communications, my family, and me. He will always be remembered and has touched our lives forever.

I had known Steve for over 30+ years and was my friend as well during that time.   Over the course of that time, we would talk about all kind of things including our fav thing to do.... boating.  I will miss our chats.

Professor Flores was such an amazing professor, mentor and friend. He cared so very deeply about helping his students and would spend so much time telling us stories about his work, his personnel experiences, and occasionally brought up his boats. He made such an impact on me personally and on other fellow classmates that chose to spend time with him even after class. He was always very appreciative of the conversations students had with him. I will carry Professor Flores in my mind and heart forever. I send my deepest condolences to his family, may God bring peace and comfort to your hearts.

I haven't known Professor Flores very long.  He was my instructor at Cal Poly Pomona for the Fall of 2020.  He was very caring and inspirational.  He was also very compassionate about his field of expertise...Taxation.

Our classes were on Zoom but I hoped for the day that I'd be able to have an at length conversation in person.

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.  He will be truly missed.

Dear Flores Family, your loss is felt by so many of us that love Steve. My memory is that Steve was always a kind gentleman with a loving and giving heart. The love and life that he and Sandy shared, stands to me, as an example of true love, partnership and fulfillment. May the Lord hold you with comfort and peace. 

We had such great times together up at the condo and then the boat which he loved and teaching the kids to fish his grandson and my great-granddaughter what wonderful times we shared.
