Ted was born in 1925 to George and Iva Karros in St. Louis, Missouri. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. After the war, he returned to St. Louis and studied at Washington University, where he met and married the love of his life, Dolores Hilfiker. They started their family in Guatemala while Ted worked for the U.S. State Department.
Having been raised in the restaurant business, it was natural for him and his brother, George, to follow suit. The Karros family built, owned, and operated Le Chateau Village in St. Louis for 40 years. In 1986, Ted and Dolores moved to Upland, California. In his retirement, you could find him singing, fishing, RVing around the western U.S., and storytelling. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed studying languages. He loved elephants in the wild.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, George. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Karros; their children, Paul Karros (Vivian), Cristina Passwater (Mike), Phillip Karros (Kathy); grandchildren, Sarah Karros, Lauren Karros, Maggie Spicer (Garrett), Jennie Passwater, Christopher Clark (Becky), Miranda Cox, and Randy Pennington, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Jane Patchett and Marcella Studt; niece, Julie Coleman (Dave); and nephews, George Karros, Alec Karros (Wendell), and Steve Karros.
