

Virginia Yvonne Graves, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, in West Covina, California. Born on November 17, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, Virginia dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity.
For over 30 years, Virginia served the City of Chicago Human Resources, where she began her career as a timekeeper and later rose to the position of supervisor. Her commitment to public service was evident in her unwavering support for the youth of Chicago, exemplified by her significant achievements in placing numerous young people in summer jobs. This endeavor not only provided valuable work experience but also instilled in them the importance of responsibility and hard work.
Virginia was a beacon of love and positivity, cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her sister Audrey Woodley, daughter, Gwendolyn Pittman (Gregory), along with her granddaughters: Ronnecia Dupree-Boyd (Sunshine Boyd), Latoya Dupree-Williams (Clint Williams), and Courtney Dupree-Sperling (Caleb Sperling Sr). She leaves behind seven great-grandchildren who adored her: Jeremiah, Kheana, Jordan, Josiah, Caleb Jr., Carter, and Carson. She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, William and Virginia Sanders, and her brothers Leroy, Arnold, and Calvin Sanders, as well as her sister, Jeanette Williams.
A lover of playing cards, Virginia enjoyed lively games filled with laughter and camaraderie, often surrounded by loved ones. Her kindness, generosity, and considerate nature made her a cherished friend to many. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her will remember her warm smile and the way she could light up a room.
Virginia often shared her guiding philosophy, quoting, "We walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7), a reflection of her resilient spirit and her deep faith.
