Virginia Margaret Ray Jensen, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2024, just shy of her 101st birthday. Born on June 4, 1923 to Elmer Harrison Ray and Grace Violet Kelly Ray in Gates, Marion Co., Oregon, she was the youngest of three siblings. She grew up moving frequently between Oregon and Long Beach, California, switching between her father, favorite aunt, and one of her favorite teachers, and others she worked for as she got a little older. She made Upland her home since 1965.
Virginia was widowed at 21 after her Army Air Force husband, David Owens Robbins, was in a stateside plane crash. She then married Harvey Ernest George and was a loving mother to Margaret, Barbara, and Carolynn. Forging on, she married Thomas Jefferson McConnell in 1963 and we welcomed Mark. She married Leonard Jensen in 1971 and loved his children, too. She was proud to keep a full cookie jar for six grandchildren who called her Granny Goose.
Always a hard worker, she retired from San Antonio Hospital after many years in the Dietary and Special Functions Unit, and cleaned houses for many years before and after. Besides family and friends, her loves were cooking, gardening, dining out, her animals, second hand stores, and especially Jenni's soup.
A life-long attendee at many churches, Virginia joined the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1966. She loved the gospel and made wonderful friends there.
We will miss her stamina, kindness, wittiness, her example of forgiveness, and her love for all of us.
She is survived by her children, 6 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 11:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 6525 Sapphire St., Alta Loma, CA. The viewing is at the same address at 10:30am. Interment at Bellevue Memorial Park at 1:00pm.
