

Mr. Jim Beeler DeMent went to his Lord on Monday, June 20, 2016. He was born in Missouri on May 10, 1942 to Hill and Goldie DeMent, who have preceded him in death. Jim was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; three brothers, John L., Hill JR, and Bill DeMent; two sisters, Lalah Aase and Mary Koch.
He is survived by a sister, Claudine Smit (husband Jeff) of McPherson, KS; Jim is also survived by a step-son, Lanny Dean, Sr. ( wife Wanda) of Baton Rouge, LA and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
After high school, Jim went into the military serving first in the Army then in the Navy. He is a member of American Legion Post # 16 in Newton, NC. After working for Broyhill 20 plus years, the plant closed. In 2005, Jim began working for Griffith Security Services Inc. He continued working for them until his death. Jim was a reliable, dependable and loyal employee. He readily made friends with his fellow workers and all whom he encountered. All that knew Jim were blessed with his positive outlook on life and his infectious laughter. He will be missed by his loving family and friends.
At Jim's request, there will be no services held.
Memorials may be given to Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover, NC or to the American Legion Post #16 in Newton, NC.
