Virginia D Colvin

Virginia Elliott Colvin, 82, of Rutherford College, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Born March 16, 1929 in Graham County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Bartley and Fannie Orr Elliott. Mrs. Colvin was also preceded in death by her husband Reed Colvin, sons Teddy and Joe Keith Colvin, and sister Lavera Orr Carver.

Surviving is her son, Harold Colvin and daughter-in-law Patricia Calhoun Colvin of Valdese; daughter-in-law Delaine Duckett Colvin (Joe's wife) of Hickory; one granddaughter Kim Colvin Micol and husband Freddie of Connelly Springs; and three grandsons, Darren Colvin, Jeffrey Colvin and wife, Audrey, and Greg Colvin, all of Valdese; 5 great grandchildren, Kylie and Tron Micol, Heather, Dara, and Austin Colvin. She is also survived by one sister Doris Burns and husband Ray, one brother, Jimmy Elliott and wife, Carolyn, and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was a homemaker for many years. She deeply cherished memories of time spent keeping her grandchildren, when they were small. Later on, she worked in various restaurants and stores in Burke County, and was often recognized by people during her numerous outings with her granddaughter, Kim. She loved going out to eat and shopping, and went as long as she was able to go. Virginia also worked as a Foster Grandparent at Rutherford College and Valdese Elementary schools, where she was able to be with and care for children, whom she loved and who loved her as well. Most of all, she loved her family, and lived for times she could be with them. She was very generous, and gave away most of her possesions to others, but she gave all her love. She also loved the Lord, and talked of His goodness and love. She loved her church family as well, and was so thankful for their visits, calls, goody baskets, and gifts. She was especially thankful for her very special friend, Betty, who was so good to her. We love you and we will miss you, Grandmother, and we will see you again!

The memorial service for Virginia Elliott Colvin will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00am, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, with the Reverend Stacey Layne officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Valdese Family Funeral Care, to assist with expenses.
