Benny Van Matre, Sr., 90, of Alma, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 at his home. He was born June 2, 1932 in Edinburg, TX to the late Wesley and Pearl (Ditto) Van Matre, Sr. He served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a computer programmer and self-employed carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley Van Matre, Jr. and I.L. Van Matre.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Van Matre of the home; a daughter, Cynthia Van Matre of Alma; a son, Benny Joe Van Matre, Jr. of Bella Vista; a brother, J.D. Van Matre of Alma; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
