George Edward Smith, Sr., 98, of Van Buren, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025 at his home. He was born July 18, 1927 in Burkesville, KY to the late Silas and Georgie (Bowen) Smith. He was a World War II Navy veteran, and a Mason. He was the owner/operator of a construction company, and drove for Lendel Vines.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Smith; a son, George Smith, Jr.; two sisters, Genevive Jones and Josephine Henderson; and a brother, Billy Carl Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Smith of Kibler, and Connie Bredernitz of Van Buren; five granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gill Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Nick Pointer, Al Crelia, Chase Comstock, Larry Crawford, Andy Comstock, and Jael Nunez.
The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
