Verna “Inez” Treece of Alma, recently of Hope’s Creek in Van Buren, passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at the age of 88 years. She was born on February 11, 1933 to Everett Vernon Deatherage and Mittie Elizabeth (Nichols) Deatherage in Gainesville, Texas. Inez’s father died before she was born. Her family moved to California where she graduated high school and met her husband, James Brooks Treece.
Inez was a faithful member of the Alma Church of Christ beginning in 1964 when the Treeces moved from California to Alma. She was blessed with many friends and family, and especially enjoyed the years in Alma raising her children on Clear Creek Ranch - the family farm. Inez loved supporting the Airedale athletic teams on which her children and grandchildren played sports. She worked as an LPN at Cedar Ridge Home where she loved the clients as she cared for them. Inez also adored the many stray dogs and cats she took in over the years!
Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Brooks Treece; her daughters, Valerie Daily Elam and Deborah Treece; and her brothers, Bud Deatherage and Bill Deatherage.
Inez is survived by her sons, Tim Treece (Carolyn) of Alma, and Scott Treece (Pamm) of Alma. She was “Mamaw” to her grandchildren, Lee Daily (Kim), Adam Daily (Brooke), Kelly Gryner, Justin Treece (Kathleen) and Alex Elam, all of Alma, Tyler Treece (Lindsey) of Edmond, OK, and Maggie Murders (P.J.) of Aubrey, TX. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, Brock, Jackson, Easton, Barron, Hudson, Ayla, Dylynn, Jameson, Brandon, Brooks, Ellie Kate, Millicent, and Beaumont.
Graveside memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Alma City Cemetery, officiated by Minister David Banks. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Inez Treece may be made to Almost Home Animal Shelter at 3390 Pointer Trail East, Van Buren, AR 72956.

I always remember her as such a nice lady. My dad being a farmer he knew Brooks and Inez both well. Recently cut through Alma to Kibler and wondered how she was when I drove by their house.
