Jim proudly served his country as a United States Marine, including combat service during the Vietnam War. He carried the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, commitment, and “Semper Fidelis”—always faithful—throughout his life and remained deeply devoted to his brothers and sisters in arms. Upon returning home from the war, Jim continued his life of service by joining the El Paso Police Department, where he honorably served his community for 27 years.
Jim will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his love for his children and grandchildren, even through the ups and downs. Jim showed us through his life what it meant to be strong, to keep moving forward no matter the challenge, and to never lose the ability to laugh and bring joy to those around us. Though Jim is no longer with us, the love he shared, the lessons he gave, and the impact he made on everyone he met will live on eternally.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James H. Holland Sr.; his mother, Alice Holland; and his beloved sister, Cathy Palmer. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Glena Holland, his five children, James Adam Holland, William Joshua Holland, Westley James O’Leary, Rachel Marie Holland, and Samantha Holland, and his eight cherished grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church with burial of ashes to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
