James Andrew Preston

James “Jim” Preston, 85, of Alma, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was born June 12, 1935 in Fort Smith to F.N. “Hap” and Jewell Preston. He served in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he just simply started again helping the people around him. The former communications specialist carried his dedication to the people around him in the service to the service of his real estate clients where he had the satisfaction of doing a job well done for over 25 years.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Johnnie Owens, Betty Maddox, and Virginia Bates; and a brother, Francis Neal Preston, Jr.

He is survived by a sister, Pat Martin of Little Rock.

Viewing will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home with cremation to follow, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

A private family-hosted interment of ashes will be held at Alma City Cemetery.

There are so many memories I could share with Jim. I was the little brat that climbed up on top of the house at 3 years old, and he had to come rescue me. He would have only been 12 at the time, but he got me down. It is a wonder he didn't just push me off. Jim, you are going to be dearly missed. Sandy
