

Joe D. Brodie, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, on September 20, 2024 after 78 beautiful years of life. His battle with serious medical issues over the last decade displayed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile on his face. Joe traveled to Heaven’s gate peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 20, 1946 to Clifford and Muriel Brodie. He was the oldest of two children. Joe’s father was a career Navy veteran, allowing him to live in many places, including California, Guam, and Arkansas.
Joe met the love of his life, Patricia, while she was working with Joe’s mother at a local hospital. They married on March 21, 1970 in Fort Smith. Together, they have two daughters, Jennifer Marks and Angela Diaz. They built a beautiful home in Van Buren, where they raised their family.
He was a hard-working man who retired from Planter’s Peanuts after 40 years of employment. Joe was dedicated to his family and community. He could spark a conversation with anyone. Joe loved the Arkansas Razorbacks, NASCAR, and fixing cars. Joe was a proud grandfather, carrying a wallet full of pictures of them everywhere he went. He became a staple in the community of Van Buren, as he never missed a grandchild’s sporting or band event. He volunteered his time to Heritage Methodist Church and to assisting low-income families with filing their taxes. His energy was magnetic, people gravitated towards him. Joe loved and accepted all people. He was compassionate, attentive, and thoughtful. His Earthly presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joe is preceded in death by his loving parents, Clifford and Muriel Brodie; and his younger brother, Tommy Brodie.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Brodie; daughters, Jennifer Marks and son-in-law Dean Marks, and Angela Diaz and son-in-law Edwin Diaz; grandchildren, Kevin Diaz, Brittany and Corey Dillard, Austen Diaz, Justin Diaz, Andrew Marks, Madison Diaz, Ethan Diaz, Trevor Diaz, Caitlyn Diaz, Brinkley Diaz, Sabree Diaz, Laineley Diaz, Paisley Diaz, Edwin Diaz Jr., Kyen Diaz, and Corbin Diaz; and his great-grandchildren, Amelia Smith, Alivia Diaz, and Talia Dillard.
Eternal rest grant unto him, oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Edward Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Austen Diaz, Kevin Diaz, Justin Diaz, Andrew Marks, Ethan Diaz, and Trevor Diaz.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
