I am so proud to call John Pannell not only my good friend but he and Sheila were my extended family.
He and Sheila (who I think of as a little sister} always had their home open for me for many years. John would always kid me about something, whether it was staying away from his dessert or something else. I loved John and I knew the feeling was mutual. John and I loved to talk about politics. The night before he passed away, we sat and talked about the presidential election. Fortunately we were of like minds. We both loved one particular news station and I will think of him every time I watch it now. John had such a kind and giving spirit. One time I got stranded on the highway with a flat tire. John rescued me and I was on my way to their home. When one of my cats died, John took the time to dig a grave for Missey Girl in their pet cemetary on their property.  I will never forget the acts of kindness that he and Sheila have done for me.  There are just too many to mention. He was a good man and my love and prayers are constant for Sheila. I know that God, her family and friends will carry her thru this time of transition The good memories that I have of the wonderful times that I have spent at the Pannells will last me For the rest of my life. I know at some point I will see John once again. My love and prayers to you Sheila now and forever.

Beloved Cousin you are such an amazing man.  Although i feel you, i will miss the face you could make smile for the darnest of reasons.  And, NO!, i do not want a big bug.  i love you so much and will carry you in my heart.

Sheila, so many of us prayed for you and John so often. We prayed for John to be healed and God chose to heal him in heaven. I'll be praying for you and your family tomorrow and in the future.

I am saddened to hear of Johns passing. We went to school together and I rode the bus with John and his sisters.  I recently met his lovely wife at the Kirksey hospital Tea.  The family will be in my thoughts and prayers

You know sometimes in life you have a cousin that is more of a brother to you than the blood brother you have. John David Pannell was that person to me. We were a lot closer than people knew. His wife Sheila knew and welcomed our conversations often. I attended their wedding and through the years John and I grew closer. The headlights from his jeep would wake me at 5 in the morning when he was headed to hunt. My backyard was his private hunting zone. As a boy, he grew up hunting and hiking the land and it was like his second home. He knew every inch of the hillside and the rocks in the creek. He called out my name late one evening when he had hurt his shoulder down on the side of the hill and couldn't get up. I ran to help him to his feet and get him back going again. I helped him get a deer out of the woods, he helped me put in my cattle guard. . He taught me how to gut a deer, he spent time with my son sharing hunting and fishing stories, he was a mentor to my son and my son spent many hours in excited hunting and fishing stories as well. My son will miss him too. We spent hours talking deer hunting, his trips to Colorado, fishing, gardening and the afternoon the day before he passed we talked about my hogs. I was supposed to call him back in a few days, and talk about how to kill the hogs the way his dad and mine use to butcher them. Sad I have to say, he passed Friday morning, 8/26. He is no longer in any pain that is a good thing. I will miss his jokes he always pulled on me, his watchful eye in my pasture but most of all, I will miss my cousin, who was my brother. And he knew it. Love you John David...

Grief is always so hard, but our memories keep us going.  John was very special to his family and friends, and we will miss seeing him and his smile.
