

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph Paul McDaniel, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on May 5, 2025, at the age of 74, due to complications from esophageal cancer. Born on September 11, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee, Joe was a tireless source of love, kindness, and community spirit throughout his life.
The son of Joseph Curtis McDaniel and Pauldina Oltremari McDaniel, Joe grew up surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit family. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his niece, Susan Kathleen McDaniel. He is survived by his adoring wife of 42 years, Karen Jean Ahart McDaniel, his constant companion through a life of joy, fellowship and love, and their children: son Shawn Patrick McDaniel (Alicia) and daughter Brittany Liana Wilson. Joe's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Taylor Johnson (Matt), Price (Jordan) and Pierce McDaniel, John (Hannah) McMichael, and Josef Wullenwaber. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Case Sones, Rose McDaniel, Caroline McMichael, and Juliet McMichael, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by brother John (Gail) McDaniel, sister Mary (Phil) Webb, sister-in-law Melinda (Max) Lupton, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Joe was a man of service and dedication, having served proudly in the Navy. His professional journey as an HR Director and corporate trainer was marked by an unwavering commitment to excellence and the empowerment of those around him. He was a respected leader in his community, serving as president and treasurer of the Van Buren Lions Club and leading in the Atlanta Metro Area Lions Club. His passion for community service was evident in his presidency of Keep Van Buren Beautiful and as an usher and volunteer gardener at Hope Fellowship.
In recognition of his tireless efforts and unwavering dedication, Joe was honored with the 2023 Van Buren Chamber of Commerce Mover and Shaker Award. He was also the recipient of the Lions International President's Certificate of Appreciation for his leadership in building the Gene Bell Park in Van Buren, an endeavor that exemplified his spirit of giving back.
Joe's heart extended well beyond his local community, as he participated in numerous missions with LensCrafters International, providing glasses to children in South and Central America and the Crow Reservation of southeastern Montana. His compassionate nature and love for others were evident in everything he did.
A passionate musician, Joe found joy in playing the drums and guitar, and his love for music was a source of happiness that he shared with family and friends. He touched many lives with his boundless warmth, generosity, and wit.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, beginning with a visitation at 11:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 PM, at Hope Fellowship, located at 2203 Hendricks Boulevard, Fort Smith, AR 72903. On Monday, May 12 at 2:00 PM, a burial with military honors will take place at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
