Passed away on January 5, 2019
Joyce Ann Cumpton, of Alma, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2019. She was born in Van Buren to the late Leonard and Gladys Walters. Her name hangs on many State basketball championship banners at Van Buren High School. After graduation, she worked at Dixie Cup for several years until she decided to follow her passion and obtained her nursing degree. In her young adulthood, she was the pianist for Shibley Baptist Church. She worked with the late Dr. Homer Ellis. Joyce went on to become the company nurse for Riverside Furniture. As an entrepreneur, she started her own business, Joyce Cumpton Paramedical Services, using her nursing skills. She ran this successful company for many years and enjoyed being her own boss.
Joyce loved a good party and socializing. She won many awards and cash prizes for her show-stopping impersonation of Cher. Upon retirement, she pursued her love of gardening and her constant companion, always by her side, Itsy, her precious dog.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne, and Julie; four granddaughters, Casey, Lindsey, Cristy, and Jordan; and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR. There are no services scheduled at this time.
Just like Frank Sinatra, she did it her way.
