Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Mary Shankle Family. May the love of family and friends help carry you through your grief. It is so important to cherish the many happy memories that your family has shared together and to celebrate a life well lived. May God sustain you at this time of such great loss. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our heavenly Father return your dear one to you.

Mrs. Shankle was a kind. loving, caring, loyal, and a respectful teacher. I loved having her as my Homeroom teacher, this year at Butterfield Trail Middle School, she was the best teacher any student can have!
She always knew how to help me when I was struggling with something like reading, she always made every thing seem so easy. I will always miss her smile, and her high five Fridays, and her sweet voice greeting us in the morning. Your always going to be remembered in my heart, I love you, Fly High, Mrs. Shankle,
Sincerely, Jonathan Soto

We miss Mrs. Shankle, she was one of my sons favorite teachers he ever had, we are always going to remember you, rest in peace, a great teacher Mrs. Shankle.

Sweet Kary,
We just talked and hugged a week ago today. 😥 It will be something I treasure forever. I can remember walking into Tate with Logan on his first day of pre school and not seeing you since we graduated and see you in the room across from his As a pre school teacher. I don’t think we ever stopped talking after that day! It was always such a joy to see you everyday. Your smile could light up any room. I was honored when you taught Peyton in 5th grade and oh how he loved you and it’s so nice to know your kiddos are in good hands with teachers. You always went above and beyond and I will forever be thankful. When I knew Caitie was going into 6th grade and you were coming back to VB, there wasn’t any doubt who I wanted her to have. I had to fight and beg to get you but it worked!! You may never know the impact you had on Caitie even before you were her teacher. We both love and miss you so much. It just doesn’t seem fair. I will cherish all of our chats and memories from Alma, Tate and the short time at BTMS. You were phenomenal in every way. Fly high my friend, I’ll help watch over your students at BTMS. We love you from the bottom of our heart! Miss you❤️

Sweet, sweet Kary. Erik and I have such broken hearts. This still doesn’t seem real. I always thought we would watch each other grow old. You were an amazing friend and I will forever cherish our friendship and memories. From working at ABF, going to Fayetteville with the boys just because we could, writing and filming murder mysteries, sleepovers, all the fun we had in that little house on Hwy 59, that weekend we all went to Dallas, having the honor to be part of your wedding party, and the birth of Noah...those are the things I will hold on to. You were loved by so many and I hope you knew how much Erik and I love you and Rocky. I have watched you be an amazing mother, teacher, sister and daughter. I always loved your stubbornness and tenacity and there will never be anyone else with those eyelashes. Sweet Kary, I simply don’t understand and our hearts ache but I know you are happy with Jesus. Until we meet again. I love you.

I was one of her students at Butterfield. She was one of my favorite teachers, she loved and cared for everyone. Her teaching was like no other, she put so much fun and love into her teaching. I hope her family and friends can grow off of her accomplishments. Her sons will grow old and never forget their amazing mom. When I look at one of her picture I still don't think that she is actually gone. We will always love Mrs. Shankle. Rest in peace, Fly High.

Our granddaughter Zoie was a student of Mrs Shankle this year at Butterfield. She doesn’t get attached to a lot of people but she definitely did with her. She taught two of Zoie’s subjects as well as being her homeroom teacher. Zoie told us how Mrs Shankle taught her students in such a fun way that it made it easy and fun to learn. She also told us how she always made all her students feel special by saying good morning to them until they said good morning back to her and how she would go around the classroom and pat each one on the head or shoulder to make them feel special, noticed and appreciated. She also told us how Fridays were high 5 day and everytime she saw the students on Friday she would give them a high 5. Zoie also drew a picture of Mrs Shankle flying up to heaven that she would like to give to the family. Zoie as well as I’m sure all the children loved her so very much and will greatly miss her. We are so sorry for your tremendous loss and we are praying for your family.
