Mary Louise Hobbs, 85 of Hobbtown, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024 in Fort Smith. She was born January 25, 1939 in Van Buren to the late Leonard and Mae (Smith) Richmond. After her marriage to John Marion Hobbs in 1957, she moved to Hobbtown where she lived the rest of her life. She was a homemaker, gardener, cattle rancher, substitute teacher, avid old-style hand quilter, and a card and note by mail sender. While she enjoyed all these things, the real loves of her life were her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family. She lived to serve both and did just that until the very end of her life. She cooked for her family every Sunday and wouldn’t miss a chance to have an even bigger party with more people on Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and no one in the family could get married or have a baby without a party at her house.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Juanita Congour; and three brothers, Bill, Gene, and Jimmy Richmond.
She is survived by her children, Kara Hill and Marty of Greenland, Jeff Hobbs of Alma, and Mark Hobbs and Nancy of Hobbtown; a sister, Faye Rust of Fort Smith; six grandchildren Aaron, Charles, and Adam Hobbs (Chlise), Laura Houck (Scott), Ellison Hill, and Campbell Hill; and seven great-grandchildren, Hanah, Lilian, Havyn, and Eli Hobbs, and Malachi, Cole, and Canaan Houck.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Morrison Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Paul Rust, Nolan Broyles, Steve Howard, Aaron Hobbs, Adam Hobbs, Charles Hobbs, Scott Houck, and Stanley Beckham.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2024, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
Her indomitable spirit made her believe tomorrow would always be a better day. Her daily life was her testimony, and her Lord will say “Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord”.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of choice.
