Mary was a longtime presence at the Fort Smith Stockyards. Through her commitment that spanned over five decades, she owned and operated The Stockyards Cafe as well as the western store. Even after the fire that changed the make-up of the property, she operated the snack bar for the weekly auctions and any special auctions. Mary was on-site every day to feed the hardworking cattlemen and was a friendly face at the cattle check-in booth on Sundays. She made many friends and influenced so many, as they did her throughout the years.
Mary loved dining out; she had a specific restaurant picked out for each day of the week. Mary loved live music venues where good friends and family could gather for some good ol’ country music and food.
The last several years of Mary’s life were spent at Methodist Village in Fort Smith, and the family would like to recognize the staff there for the love they poured into Mary’s life every day.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Flora (Morse) Mahurin, and her sister, Reba Jane Wilson, as well as her nephew, Phillip Hogan. Mary had no children of her own, but she is survived by two nephews, whom she loved like they were her own, Dave Earnhart and wife Liz of Greenwood, and their five children and one granddaughter, Jeff Earnhart and wife Tracey of Mountainburg, and their four children and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece, Marilyn Lewis, whom she loved dearly.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Dyer Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2026, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
