Mary Catherine Johnston

Mary Catherine Johnston, 83, of Van Buren, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015. She was born March 9, 1932 in Alma, to the late Bill and Hazel Cristee Plum. She was a homemaker, a member of the Hwy 71 Freewill Baptist Church in Alma, and a member of the Fine Springs Lodge of the Order of the Eastern Star in Alma. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. “Buck” Johnston.

She is survived by her companion, Jack Stone of Fort Smith; three sons, Buddy Johnston of San Francisco, David Johnston and wife Yvonne of Fort Smith, and Terry Johnston and wife Kristi of Hurst, TX; two sisters, Margaret McCormick of Alma, and Dorothy Davis of San Antonio; twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and a very dear friend of 70 years, Bonnie Moore of Barling.

Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Johnston, Tim Johnston, George Johnson, and Max Nason.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren.
