Maxine Reba Elam

Maxine Elam, 85, of Van Buren, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019. She was born May 5, 1933 in Fort Smith to the late Gene and Gracey Mae Gregory. She was a homemaker and an artist. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Elam; a daughter, Judy Glenn; a sister, Lucille Oliver; and two brothers, Kirsay and Truman Gregory.

She is survived by three daughters, Pam Dean and husband Harold of Bakersfield, CA, Brenda Davis and husband Michael of Van Buren, and Donna Thibodeaux and husband Jerry of Short, OK; two sons, Robert Elam and wife Patty of Bakersfield, CA, and Gary Elam of Alma; a brother, Jim Gregory of Kibler; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Pallbearers will be Mark Glenn, Daniel Thibodeaux, Zane Mathews, Daniel Collins, Curtis Tucker, and Gary Dedmom. Honorary pallbearers will be Alison Parnel, Leeann Thibodeaux, Sarah Collins, and Alex Mathews.

The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2019, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.

Aunt Maxine and uncle Leroy gave me my first Bible white with my name in gold for high school graduation she made my wedding cake .She loved me doing her hair at fourteen .She build up my confidence. Grandpa was having a birthday party witch was on around the first of March so to have on the nearest weekend they had it on birthday I kept telling everyone no one listened but aunt Maxine They I mean grandma and grandpa grandma ‘s brothers uncle JD Hobbs who played his fiddle grandma played the tambourine their was a harmonica A guitar as they passed around a bottle of whiskey Mean time Aunt Maxine gives me a present , a black patten purse with three white daisies on it and she insisted I pass it so people could look at it which I did not want to when I got it back it was so heavy every one put in Change. I walked-around for weeks on clouds wonderful memories planning on seeing you again Aunt Maxine Janie
