Shirley Mae Avey
October 23, 1939 – March 14, 2023

Shirley Avey, 83, of Mulberry, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at her home. She was born October 23, 1939 in Van Buren to the late Ted and Gladys (McCrite) Boyd. She was a Sebastian County Comptroller, a CETA Administrator for Sebastian and Crawford Counties and Hiram Walker, co-owner/operator of J&S Trucking, and an accounting manager for Meek Mirrors.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Melba Rogers, Patsy Lasiter, and Sue Reed; three brothers, Bill, Don, and Teddy Boyd; a granddaughter, Stephanie Wagner; and a great-grandson, Luke Kenney.
She is survived by her husband, John Avey of the home; a daughter, Lisa Tarmey and husband Joe of Mulberry; a son, Jim Avey of Mulberry; a sister, Jean Jones of Fort Smith; six grandchildren, Ashley Bartholomew, Morgan Kenney, Mattie Petchenik, Hannah Juarez, Jonathan Wagner, and Natalie Tarmey; and eight great-grandchildren, RaeLynn Avey, Hali and Jude Bartholomew, Lane McKenzie, Remi Juarez, and Devon, Grant, and Blaine Kenney.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2023 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Joe Tarmey, Jonathan Wagner, Derek Rice, Cliff Boyd, Stuart Boyd, Devon Keeney, Grant Kenney, and Jude Bartholomew. Lane McKenzie will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family will visit with friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
