

Terry Bernard Schmitt, 74, of Van Buren, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Fort Smith. He was born July 11, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa to the late Bernie and Joan (Link) Schmitt. He served his country in both the Air Force and retired from the U.S. Navy and had worked for the Post Office. He was an active contributor to Catholic Ministries, and a long-time supporter of many charities committed to serving those in need.
He is survived by three sons, David Schmitt of Iowa, Terry “T.J.” Schmitt of Van Buren, Ark., and Travis Schmitt and wife Emily of Johnson, Ark.; and four grandchildren, Cherokee, Raine, Kensley, and Mabry.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, Ark.
The family will visit with friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, Ark.
