Theresea Anne Wellnitz

July 21, 1942November 17, 2021

Our Dad was jumping for joy when our mother, Theresea Anne Wellnitz, joined him in Heaven, Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Married for 54 years they are again joined together with all the family who were waiting for her. With all the trials on earth they clung to each other through good times and hard alike.

Theresea was born July 21, 1942 to John Joseph William Liston and Ella Juanita Lister Liston in Susan B. Anthony Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas. She lead a rich life as a child moving from small towns across the Kansas prairie with her parents who were telegraph operators for the railroads. She met the love of her life as a child and they were married in 1966 in Galveston, Texas. Moving to Arkansas that same year, they forged their home and made life for their children. She often said we were at the end of the road in the Rena Valley. Always the mother to all the scouts and the cooker of meals to feed the little hungry kids who often camped out; she was an expert at making enough to make sure all got fed. She volunteered at St Boniface for Birthright in her early years and the Literacy Council of Van Buren. A gardener of what she enjoyed growing, love for all she would meet. Her favorite saying was "God bless you and keep you safe". She could also be as fierce as she needed with her old goose gun at the ready to chase off any old wolves or coyotes that came after her chickens. In her older age, we had to remove all the shells to protect any salesmen that might stop by. She is and always will be our beloved mother.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Van Buren, and a member of the Altar Society at St. Michael’s.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; and a granddaughter, Brittnee Wellnitz.

She is survived by three daughters, Melissa Johnson and husband Tony of Moore, OK, Susan Rutherford and husband Brian of Van Buren, and Regina Fowler and husband Jeremy of Van Buren; three sons, Jon Wellnitz and wife Mae of Van Buren, Tony Wellnitz and wife Micah of Springfield, MO, and Jerry Moore, Jr. and wife Christy of Van Buren; a brother, Michael Liston of Winslow; fourteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren and many loved friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2021 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Wellnitz, Tristen Johnson, Kolton Johnson, Alex Rutherford, Jack Thomas, and Jeremy Fowler.

The family will visit with friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.

In lieu of gathering for food, memorial contributions may be made to one of the local Homeless Shelters or the Van Buren Public Library.

She was the greatest. She smoothed out many of my life’s ruffled feathers, I.E. my earliest difficult lessons, with her amazing love and good examples that just shown from every part of her loving soul and personality, for all the lost and weary souls looking for refuge who entered their home; like me. She and others like her have taught me the values of my earlier lessons, and watching her showed me how to truly help others, as she did all the days of her awesome life! Aunt Theresea, You taught many more you never knew about, because you first taught me. I have spent 20+ years returning Your amazing gift. From now on it’s done in your honor my beautiful Aunt Theresea. This is merely until I see you again, for as sure as I am there is a Heaven, I Know You are already there Beautiful Soul!
