William "Bill" Ernest Gilbert

William Ernest Gilbert, affectionately known as “Bill,” passed on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the age of 82. Born March 29, 1944, in Franklin County, Arkansas, Bill was the youngest child of Pearl and Ernest Gilbert. He lived in Crawford County, Arkansas. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army.

Bill was a graduate of Mulberry High School. Following his escape from school, he built a life of steady work and skilled hands, becoming a tool and die maker and machinist. Over time, that dedication carried him to the fulfillment of a long-held goal: owning his own business, “Gilbert Saw and Tool.” His work reflected a quiet pride in doing things well and seeing them through.

In 1962, Bill married Sharon. Together, they built a life that spanned 64 years, rooted in commitment and family. They had three daughters: Choya, Kathy, and Crystal.

Bill’s love for his family extended across generations. He was the proud Grandpa Bill to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – Chelsea, Dustyne, Emma, Emily, Jackson, Lauren, Harrison, Katherine, Nora, and Maverick – holding each of them close in his heart and taking deep joy in who they were becoming. He was so proud of all of these grandbabies and thought each one was amazing.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; four of his siblings; and two of his daughters. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Gilbert of the home; his daughter, Choya Hockaday and husband Steven; three grandchildren, Chelsea, Dustyne, and Emma; and seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Jackson, Lauren, Harrison, Katherine, Nora, and Maverick.

The family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
