Yong Zhen Li was born in 1934 in Shandong Province, the eldest of four.
She came to Canada in 1980 on a visitor visa and was undocumented for several years before being granted amnesty and citizenship in May 1989. Yong Zhen was a skilled career seamstress and an equally impressive and prolific self-taught artist, residing in Toronto, and eventually settling in Vancouver.
Yong Zhen passed away peacefully on the evening of June 3rd, 2024, with her daughter, Lilian, by her side at the Richmond Hospital. She is predeceased by her late husband Zhiyue Zhang (張志岳), her parents Guang Li (李光) and Kang Han (韓康), and her brother Yongshan Li (李永善). She is survived by her younger brother Yongsheng Li (李永生) and sister Yong Mei Li (李永美) , daughter Lilian Ho (Len Ho), son Tony Zhang, grandchildren Winston (Victoria) and Beverly Ho, and great-grandsons Oliver and Benjamin Ho. Yong Zhen will be remembered for her fierce independence, tenacity, and loving nature.
