It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our family matriarch, Angeliki (Koula) Mpoutopoulos (nee Vasilakopoulos) on Monday, February 23, 2026. Koula was born on April 13, 1947 in Kato Vasiliki, Nafpaktias, Greece to Konstantina and Panayiotis Vasilakopoulos. In 1966,she left Greece with her sister and mother and came to Victoria, BC, to work to secure a better future. in January 1968, she married Ioannis (John) Mpoutopoulos and in December, they welcomed their first daughter Georgia (Gina) and in October 1974, they welcomed their second daughter Konstantina (Dina).
Working hard in the restaurant industry since she arrived in Canada, Koula and her siblings opened Periklis Restaurant in 1979 and there she worked until retirement in 2009. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Victoria and Vancouver Island Greek Community, helping build the church and Philoptochos society there. Koula was a dedicated mother and wife, demonstrating to her girls that with hard work and determination, you could work, cook amazingly, raise children, keep house and garden and still have time to run to Greek school, Greek dance class, and skating lessons all with a smile on your face. When Koula and John retired, the need to spend more time with their grandchildren brought them to Port Coquitlam. The grandchildren were the light of Koula's eyes; She was ever so proud when she spoke of them. Koula also embraced the local Greek community, volunteering with Sts. Nicholas and Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and making many, many friends.
Koula is survived by John, her loving husband of 58 years, her devoted daughters Gina (Kosta) and Dina and her cherished grandchildren Luisa, Yianni and Angeliki. She is also survived by her siblings Georgina (Gerry), Paul (Olga) and Sia (Kosta), many nieces, nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Philoptohos Society of Saints Nicholas and Dimitrios Church.
