After losing both her parents at a very young age, my mom was raised by her older siblings. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in English and elementary education and became an elementary school teacher in Paniqui. With her adventurous spirit and love for learning, she left Paniqui and enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Hawaii. Later, she was sponsored by her brother and sister in law to live in Toronto, Canada. In Toronto, she worked at St. Michaels hospital for five years as a medical records clerk. After moving to various cities in Canada, she settled in Vancouver, where she married husband Segundo and they raised me together. Her love for learning new things never stopped. In her late fifties she graduated from the hospital care aide program at Sprott Shaw community college and then worked as a registered care aide. She returned to the CIBC data center (now renamed Intria Item’s Inc) and worked in the mailroom. At one point, the entire family (my Mom, Dad and I) worked at Intria and we carpooled to work together!
My mom was kind, caring and our family problem solver. If someone had a problem, my mom would try her best to solve it. She loved my Dad and I so much, and we are both so lucky to have had her in our lives. Her love for her siblings, nieces and nephews was also deep. We will all miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband Segundo, son Mark, daughter in law Teresa, sister Mercedes, sister in law Zenaida, and her nieces and nephews. I love you Mom.
