Surrounded by her loved ones: her daughter, son, grandchildren, and her brother and sister, Bonnie passed away peacefully at the Vancouver General Hospital on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at sunset.
Bonnie was born on April 9, 1962 in the north-central part of B.C. (Vanderhoof). She spent her formative childhood years at Nak’azdli Whut’en (Fort St James) which is her First Nation and ancestral home. Bonnie then moved to Vancouver in 1972 with her mother and siblings.
Bonnie was a funny, happy, charismatic, outgoing, generous, and a beautiful, loving human being. Bonnie loved people and always had a friend by her side. She was non-judgemental, caring of family members, and accepted everyone for who they were. She loved Sts’uhngee (dry-meat) and all traditional foods of her homelands. She had a playful nature and loved to cook, laugh, joke, sing and dance. Bonnie was a bit of a “trickster” and loved to tease her loved ones (especially her siblings). Bonnie lived most of her adult life in Coast Salish territory (Vancouver) where she completed high-school and worked most of her life as a home-maker and helping elderly people live a good quality of life.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter Simone, Yurek (Synus), grandchildren, Elias, Karalyn and Jazzlynn; Siblings: Phyllis (Al), Victor Jr. (Shelley), Jeanette (Brian), Phillip (Louise), Jerry, Chris (Rosalinda), Jackie (Ken), Dwayne (Nicole), Darrel and many aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, relations, and many friends (too many to list). Predeceased by Eileen Prince, Phil Kloepfer, Victor Wilfred Lacerte, Benoit Prince, Sarah Prince and Sophie Kettlo.
The Funeral Service honouring Bonnie’s life will be held at Glenhaven 1835 East Hastings Street in Vancouver on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Cremation will follow. Bonnie’s ashes will be scattered at places of important to her, both in Vancouver and at her traditional territory, beside her late father Victor Lacerte at Nadleh Whut.en (Nautley/Lejac, Fort Fraser).
