Chot was predeceased by her husband and son-in-law: Moc Hinh Truong and Hung Quoc Dang. Chot is survived by four daughters, five sons, 4 sons-in-law, 2 daughters-in-law, and eight grandchildren.
In her life, Chot had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, especially in subjects such as history, geography, and geopolitics. In her adolescence, Chot enjoyed partaking in sport activities: swimming, volleyball, and badminton. She was blessed with an artistic sensibility and was gifted in water colour painting. Her subjects included birds, butterflies, flowers, gardens, and bucolic landscapes.
Being abandoned by her parents, Chot was raised by her grandmother who instilled in her the values of being fiercely independent and being proactive in planning for her future. After her marriage, Chot took nursing courses so she could work as a community nurse. She was proud of helping numerous patients not only in regaining their optimal health and wellness, but also in sharing her insights on how to navigate and surmount challenges of familial/social relationships and financial matters. Moreover, Chot was skilled in getting great value for Chinese herbal medicine and food purchases since bargaining and socially spontaneous conversations came naturally to her in dealing with vendors in Vancouver’s Chinatown.
Chot was sensitive and perceptive in her interactions with her family, friends, acquaintances and neighbours. Family get-togethers for holidays and any occasion delighted her, especially when it included several scrumptious Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Chot taught her children very strong foundational values of frugality, hard work, being grounded in reality, honesty, and integrity. For Chot, bonding with her husband and children was paramount in her quest for spiritual identity and life meaning.
With help from her husband, Chot was instrumental in realizing her familial goal of leaving Vietnam so that her children could have better prospects and futures in education and careers in Canada.
Her death is a monumental loss to her family, but also a blessing because her suffering has ended and she will be reunited with her husband in their celestial world.
