Christos Frangolias

APRIL 28, 1937 – SEPTEMBER 24, 2023

The Frangolias family sadly announces the passing of Christos Frangolias at Vancouver General Hospital on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Predeceased by his parents, Efthimios and Panagiota Frangolias, son Dimitrios (Jim) Frangolias (1999). Christos is survived by his wife, Sophie, son Efthimios (Thenty), daughter Effie (James Ainsley), grandson Christopher, granddaughter Sophia and many other family and friends in Canada and Greece.

Born in Filiatria, Messenia, Greece on April 28, 1937, Christos was sponsored by two uncles (Vassilios and Evangelos Frangolias) and immigrated in 1955 to Powell River, BC, where he found work at the MacMillan Bloedel Pulp & Paper Mill. After nine (9) years Christos decided it was time to marry and agreed to an arranged marriage with Sophie Arvanitis. Sophie arrived to Canada and the two met for the very first time in 1964. The two were married within the month. Their first son was born 1965, second son 1966 and daughter 1971.

Christos moved his family from Powell River to Vancouver, BC. Christos worked as a server at various pubs in Vancouver, BC. He subsequently owned and operated with his brother in-law (Andreas Arvanitis) Chris’s Billiard’s; and Romios Greek Taverna.

Christos was an avid sportsman and had a love and passion for hunting. He adored his only two grandchildren and was the Best Papou! He always had a smile, wise words; was well-respected and larger than life.

Christos will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends however; will be with us always in spirit and memory.
