It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Darren Todd Akan grandfather, father, brother, cousin and friend. Darren entered into the spirit world on July 29, 2019 at 5:15 pm at St. Paul’s Hospital Vancouver BC, for his final journey into the eternal life to meet his creator with his family by his side. Survived by his partner Camille Peloquin and his long time friend Cheryl Johnson, his loving children Mitchell Sanderson of Regina Sask, daughter Jessica Johnson of Edmonton AB and Mariah Stevenson of Quenel BC, grandchildren Kiesha and Jamal Sanderson of Regina. Predeceased by his Father Mervin Louis Akan; Mother Lorraine Mary Desjarlais; Brother Terrence Henry Akan; Maternal Great-Great Grandparents Tom and Marie Desjarlais; Great Grandparents Jean Baptiste ‘JB’ and Alice Desjarlais; Grandparents Frank and Virginia Desjarlais; Cousins Michelle St. Lauren-Maheux, Alisa Bellerose; Uncles Henry Desjarlais, Delbert (Mitch) Desjarlais; Aunties Lucy Stone, Sarah Desjarlais. Predeceased on his paternal side of his family, his Great Grandfather Sam and Marie Akan; Grandparents Louis and Bertha Akan; Uncles Frank Akan, Vincent Akan, Edward Akan, Henry Akan; Aunties Mary Akan, Georgina Akan, Helen Akan, Rosa Moise, Isabelle Bruce; Cousin Linda Akan. Survived by his only Aunt Lillian(Earle) Massecar; Uncles Thomas Desjarlais, Leo Stone (Toby, Sasha); special cousin Sherry Bellerose (Daniel, Raimi, Nova and Kess Houston); Chief Reginald Bellerose (Virginia Desjarlais); Brad, Myrna Bellerose (Chaz, Tia ,Michael, Dawson, Jas, Unikka); Max Bellerose (Dalton Sparvier); Lisa Gagne; Danielle St. Laurent and Julie Gagne. Numerous nephews and nieces that held a special place in his heart, especially Shayla, Nolan and Alizea Bellerose whom he spent a lot of time with over the years. Our family is grateful for the support from the Desjarlais, Akan, Bruce and Poorman family members, as well as the support from the Muskowekwan Council. Our family is profoundly thankful for the support from the ICU team at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver who had compassion and genuine caring towards the family while providing comfort and support and preserving the respect and dignity of Darren while in their care.
Services to be held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel 1835 E Hastings St Vancouver, BC on Tuesday August 13, 2019 viewing at 2:30pm service at 3pm.
