Dimitrios Tadoglou

February 9, 1931 – February 22, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband; father, brother, uncle and everybody's best friend. Dimitrios passed after a lengthy battle with COPD and Dementia on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maria, his three sons Argirios, Girigorios and Marcos and many relatives, nephews and nieces in Greece and in Canada. Predeceased by his two brothers and two sisters Polihronis, Vassilios, Marika and Anna. Dimitrios was born in Kavala, Greece on February 9, 1931 to Argirios and Ligiri Tadoglou. He married his loving wife Maria in 1965, had his first two children in Greece while also taking part in different business ventures before immigrating to Canada in 1974 at the age of 43 with his wife and two young children. Within his first two years in Canada he has his third son while working various jobs as an early immigrant until he started working at UBC in 1979 where stayed for 19 years. In 1987 Dimitrios and his family opened Maria's Taverna while still employed at UBC. He took pride in running the restaurant for over 25 years. Dimitrios will be remembered for being a hard working, honest person. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially travelling with his wife Maria and various friends. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his children, giving them guidance while participating in various sports in their younger years. Dimitrios was much loved by everyone throughout his life, he was very fond of his childhood friends who kept in touch with him in their elder years as well as his many friends he made in Canada. Unfortunately his Dementia forced him to retire at the age of 78 years but was in the loving care of his family for nine years until his passing on February 22, 2018. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Prayers will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at St. George's Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Father Constantinos Economos officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery with luncheon to follow back at the church hall.
