August 1, 1918 – April 18, 2017
It is with deep sadness that the family of Doris Hunter shares the news of her passing at Broadway Pentecostal Lodge in Vancouver, at the age of 98. Doris was born in Bexhill, England. She came to Canada at the age of 2. In her late teens, Doris met the love of her life, Lloyd, they married in 1940, sharing almost 69 years together, a life full of adventure and making many friends along the way. She loved music and singing, remembering words to songs well into her 90’s, long walks with her dogs at Kitsilano Beach, tending her splendid flower gardens and travelling with husband Lloyd in their motor home.
Her greatest joy was her dogs, there was often a treasured dog in her arms or in her shadow. We were blessed to have a beautiful Aunt with such a caring heart and sense of humour. Our Aunt taught us the value of caring deeply for animals, and volunteerism, having spent many summers serving at the Vernon Cadet Camp and Washington Scout Camps.
Doris and Lloyd spent many years in the Kitsilano area, where Lloyd was involved with the Seaforth Highlanders. Doris is predeceased by her husband, Lloyd (2009), her parents Walter and Elizabeth Culum, and also nephew Jack (Peggy) Reynolds. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews across Canada and the United States. She will be ever missed and always in our hearts. A family memorial will take place in early May with Interment at Oceanview Burial Gardens. We wish to thank the kind nurses, care aides and support staff for providing comfort and love to our Aunt in the years she resided at Broadway Pentecostal Lodge.
Arrangements under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Vancouver, BC.
