Dorothy was born in Fridaythorpe, Yorkshire, England, on August 4, 1920 to William and Alice (Patrick) Watson.
Dorothy won a scholarship to The Boulevard School in Hull, Yorkshire, whose students have also included Amy Johnson, the first woman aviator to fly solo from England to Australia, and English actor Sir Thomas Daniel Courtnenay. Dorothy was very clever until the end. Before retiring from Eaton’s book department at age 70, Dorothy had won several service awards and acquired an impressive collection of autographed biographies.
Mum loved reading, music, singing, poetry, art, crossword puzzles, cards, Scrabble, hockey, movies, the Dalesman, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Mum liked learning about her great-grandchildren, and discussing current events. We often had to Google the answers to her many questions. Mum enjoyed outings in nature and loved to recount her sightings of the local flowers, butterflies, birds, cats, and squirrels, and especially her favourite yellow trees at 3rd and Yew.
Dorothy is predeceased by her loving husband Don, brother Geoffrey and sister Margaret Rose. Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters Valerie Stonehouse, Montreal; and Pamela Stonehouse (John Atkinson), Victoria; grandchildren Marietta and Stephen Destounis, Montreal; great-grandchildren Alexa and Brandon Faulkner, and Billy, James and Tommy Destounis, Montreal; brothers Denys, David and Clive Watson, and sisters Marjorie Hepworth and Jean Dennett, Yorkshire, England.
