Ted was predeceased by his wife Carol, his parents, Edward & Myrtle and his sister Irene. He passed on October 11, 2024 and is survived by his wife, Beatrice, his children Susan (Doug) & Robert (Andrea), step children Tony and Karen (Sergio), four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Ted’s early years were spent with his parents and sister, his Grandparents, Arthur and Minnie Greenius, Uncle Wilmer and Aunt Hazel and his first cousins, Fran and Evelyn all living in the Commercial Drive/Salsbury neighbourhood. Later, after moving to South Vancouver, he was an adventurous boy/teen with a close call on the Fraser River running along the log booms with his good friend Larry. He attended John Oliver High School and enjoyed being the class/school photographer.
He was a dedicated, kind and respectful gentleman who was always willing to help anyone that asked for his assistance. His working career started as a White Spot car hop, moved into CPR Telegraph office and then the CPR accounting office. Marrying young in 1961 to Carol, they had 2 children right away. They enjoyed the outdoors with many adventures camping in the BC wilderness, often with a string of diapers drying on the line at camp. Hiked many trails and mountains with the kids on their backs. He was proud of his first new car, a 1966 Chevelle which he loaded a solid red wooden canoe on top. The family had many canoeing adventures often crossing Alouette lake to stay on the beach overnight. He moved the family into his forever home in 1970 which he caringly built on his own and managing the trades. To support his young family, he worked at Maco while attending night school to complete is CGA certification in 1968. Joining his father’s (and mother’s) accounting practice in the Birks building downtown Vancouver he learned everything he could to prepare for their retirements in 1970 when Carol joined him as his secretary and partner. Later moving to the Pacific Centre, he and Carol worked till 1989 when they moved the practice home so Carol could retire to quilt. During this time, he was an invaluable asset to the many clients he supported often going above and beyond to assist many of them with complicated tax, legal, and estate issues. He was excited to learn how to program and use computers when they first came available to the public. He wrote his own payroll and accounting software and made sure his children and grandchildren had the technology available to them by rebuilding their systems whenever upgrades were needed. He made sure his children were well versed in many subjects including car maintenance. He was a handy fix-it man with many talents for all types of machines. He rebuilt his treasured “Teeca” in 1982, a 19ft boat, from scratch when the hull had failed and enjoyed riding motorcycles with family and friends when the kids were growing up. With Carol’s love for travel they took many cruises and vacations together before her death in 2006.
In 2007, he went back to his love of round and square dancing and felt incredibly fortunate to find the second love of his life in Beatrice. Married in 2010, they had many adventures together. Starting with a cruise and tour of the BC coast, Yukon and Alaska in 2010 and in the Caribbean 2011. Then in 2013 enjoying their purchase of “Ivy” touring across Canada and around the United States. They went to Europe and visited the UK in 2015. Their last trip being to Hawaii and Alaska in 2016. With Covid affecting the world in 2020, Ted and Bea moved into a quiet stage of life dealing with medical challenges and enjoying their lives together. Ted will be missed very much and always be remembered by his values of hard work, independence and loyalty. These values have prepared his family well for their futures.
There will be no public funeral, please celebrate his memory in a way that speaks to you. No flowers please. A special thank you to Burnaby General Hospital staff for their care and compassion in his last days.
