It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beautiful and loving daughter, Emily Andrea, at 34 years of age on November 17th. Emily brought our family and friends much joy and laughter and we will miss her greatly. She is survived by her mom Virginia, dad Real, sister, Marieve (Ian) and child Andrea. Thank you Emily for one of the greatest gifts you could have ever given us, your baby girl, when you realized you were too ill to raise her. "Andie" was adopted at birth by us and is truly a remarkably smart, energetic and healthy little girl who brings us endless happiness and joy.
Before succumbing to drugs, Emily was a vibrant and smart individual with a great future ahead of her, filled with friends, an education, a love for animals and a keen sense of humor.
Emsie was generous to a tee. I remember when she was about six years old her cracking a chocolate bar into two - one piece ended up quite huge, the other dismally small. Without hesitation she handed over the big hunk to her little friend, keeping the small portion for herself. Just a small gesture but big enough to describe her generous soul.
Mi Mi and I could laugh non-stop for long bouts, even to the point where her sister once screamed at us to stop because "You're scaring me!". Today it is evident that Andie shares Emily's love of laughter! (Mommy! You're a boy not a girl!?? and giggling her 3-year old head off because of such silliness).
Emily Bemily had great compassion for animals - lucky Peaches for that! She had found that scrawny, one year old kitty cat out in the rain and of course scooped it up with "Mom! Can we keep him? he doesn't have a home!" She cradled Peaches for six years in a blanket and then let him mature into that smart 19 year old cat never leaving his side.
We share our deep sadness with all the moms and dads, sisters and brothers, and grandparents who lose family due to opioids. The statistics are tragically high, especially here in BC. We wish we could wipe the universe of dealers, but cannot. We can only warn others that drugs can and do kill. And it causes great pain for families. In our case our dear Emily (aka Emsie, Mi Mi, Emily Bemily), daughter, sister, cousin, niece and friend.
Please hug your child for us. Or your mom, your pop, your brother or sister, your dog or cat and think of Emily. Know you are so fortunate to have your loved one in your arms while others, including us, cannot and who will feel that incredible loss and hurt each and every day to come.
