Wesley Shifflett, beloved life partner of Jennifer Rogers, brother of Ellie Shifflett, son of Fay Mascher and Chuck Shifflett, and son-in-law of Helen and Jim Rogers, passed away tragically on July 19, 2024, in Vancouver, at the age of 33.
Wes grew up in High River, AB. His childhood was spent roaming the streets of High River with his sister and neighbourhood friends, camping and dirt biking at Perry Creek, creating and fixing things, reading countless books, and helping out in his dad’s guitar shop, among many other things. Wes loved time spent with his cousins and extended family with highlights including many ski and lake trips, as well as time at his aunt and uncle’s family farm.
Wes had a talent for keeping things in perspective that let him succeed through his schooling while also prioritising social connection. He graduated from Highwood High School, and then moved on to Victoria where he completed a BSc at UVic.
It was while at home after the flood of 2013 that Wes and Jenny’s friendship flourished into a lifelong commitment. Together Wes and Jenny built a life full of joy and adventure. Wes’ balanced perspective was an asset as they supported each other through moves to Edmonton and Montreal while Jenny completed her law degree, before they finally settled with their two cats in the heart of Vancouver. Wes worked at a motorcycle dealership in Vancouver, and his amiable nature and passion for motorcycles made him a valued employee and dear friend to his co-workers. Lately, Wes has enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for life through rock climbing, camping, and cooking.
Wes and Jenny loved being at home, but also created opportunities to travel and explore together. Last year’s motorcycle tour through Vietnam was a highlight for Wes and Jenny, and they had many more adventures planned. It was a rich and vibrant life, ended too soon.
Wes was a kind and easygoing man, thoughtful, and insightful. He was a calming presence, quick to joke, but slow to anger. We are heartbroken at the loss of Wes.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Wes's life will be held on August 19th, 1:00 PM (MT)
at Highwood Golf & Country Club, 400 7th Street NW, High River, AB (CA)
