

With heavy hearts, the family of Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan announces the peaceful passing of their devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, with her family by her side, on Sunday, October 30, 2016.
Mrs. Fung Yee (Maria) Kwan (關黄鳳儀夫人) was born in Cham Kong (湛江), Canton, China, on March 4, 1931 as the eldest daughter and the second oldest of 6 children to Mr. Sic How Wong (黄錫豪) and Mrs. Kwun San Wong (黄陳坤善). At age 18, she married her beloved husband, Mr. Shu Ki Kwan (關樹琪先生). Both Mr. and Mrs. Kwan were primary school teachers during their early career. In 1973, they emigrated from Hong Kong to Vancouver, B.C. and started their own day care facility.
Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan always put family first. To her family, she was a storyteller, intuitive, generous and wise. She spent her life loving to teach, sing, travel, share photos and memories. Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan was resourceful and diligent to educate herself and took the effort to maintain her health care, diet and well-being for many decades of her long life. This translated to her love for cooking and healthy foods. All her grandchildren loved this about her, as she would always keep her family well-fed and happy. Having family close by, loving her and each other unconditionally, was what mattered most to Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan. Family was a priority and Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan instilled great values, through her compassion and devotion to her children, as a pillar to all those within her family.
Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan is survived by her husband, Mr. Shu Ki Kwan, her children: Joe (Georgina), Margaret (Andrew), Stella (K.K.), Herman (Hsinyi) and Cecilia (Danny), her 12 grandchildren: Irene, Amelia, Elliott, Ryan (Grace), Clive, Douglas, Preston (Vivian), Jason (Vicky), Tiffany (Ken), Allison, Devin and Teegan and her 2 great-grandchildren: Jake and Henrik.
Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan will be remembered as a creative, wise, thoughtful, warm and kind-hearted person always with a gentle smile on her face. She has always been a valiant fighter, with the strength and good spirits to keep her good health. Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan was always caring, intelligent and a cheerful role model to each and every one. She was the Mother of all Mothers and Grandma of all Grandmas. Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan is, and will always be, greatly loved and sorely missed. May she rest in peace.
The memorial service will be held at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, B.C. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 11 am. The burial service will then take place at Ocean View Cemetery, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C. at 1 pm. A post-service reception will be held at Fraser Court Seafood Restaurant, 3489 Fraser Street, Vancouver, B.C. at 3 pm.
