Gordon was born on May 22, 1936 (1937 in legal documents) in King Moi, Guangdong province in China. In 1953, he arrived in Saskatchewan to join his father, Suey Chan, in running Edam Cafe and the family farm. Gordon’s mother, Gladys Young, was able to come to Canada in 1957. Gordon married Susan Leung on September 2, 1963. They had five children, May (Jimmy), Helen (Edwin), Marian (Ron), Jean and William. He moved to Vancouver after retirement, where he took on new interests. He was a family man and loved his grandchildren, Kelvin, Kendrick, Brandon and Tyler.
He was known for his many interests, including growing orchids and bonsais, gardening, painting, photography, taxidermy, hunting, fishing, and chatting about these subjects, to dear friends and relatives in Edam, Vancouver and Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations made in Gordon’s memory to the “Garden Respite Fund” at VanDusen Botanical Garden to provide nature access for those facing mental health challenges, or to “Ducks Unlimited Canada” to conserve wetlands for waterfowl habitat.

Your thoughts and the work of these two organizations would bring a smile to Gordon’s face. He will be missed.
