Dear Naomi & family, 
We send our heartfelt wishes to you.  
We have very fond memories of living next door to you & Gordie. With no family here in Vancouver, you were there for us as brand new parents with our baby boy Campbell. Your door was always open with a warm smile & a cup of tea.  Gordie loved a good story & shared many with us. We have re counted your story to many people when the two  of you went to the Marilyn Manson concert.  Such good sports! You were always up for an adventure & so enjoyed being with family & all kinds of people. 
Gordie will be missed.

Gordie was a master lawn keeper and cut his grass with precision.  The type of precision you only see on a golf course green.  I was a beginner lawn keeper and not so precise.  Gordie was kind to lend me his gardening tools and always had an encouraging word as I laboured on the dandelions in our yard.  Over the twenty years that we were neighbours, our yards became a meeting place for Gordie, Naomi, and me to discuss the lawns, the flowers and trees, the squirrels, the ants, the rats, the wasps, the skunks, and the racoons.  Of course there were always family updates as well.  I will remember Gordie in the yard, with his Naomi, ready to visit with a neighbour and to share stories and laughter.

Our hearts go out to Naomi, Charlie, Rob, Brody, and, of course, Christy.  We were sorry we could not be there in person today to share and learn more about Gordon’s impact on everyone who came into his life. 

We were honoured to have met him and take solace in seeing his sparkle, humour, and love of life in his great-grandson where they shall forever remain.  Gordie was the classic gentleman who lived life well.  We cherish the legacy he created that touches our life.

Michael (Mike) asked me to share one of his favourite memories of Gordie, Brody’s Grampa, who took the boys on a  field trip to the local ice rink when they were in elementary school…short story, one student didn’t have gloves so was not allowed on the ice so Mike loaned him his gloves. Then when Mike went on the ice (gloveless), the teacher ordered him off the ice, saying it was a safety issue. Grampa Gordie had his parental hat on in that moment and stepped in and “tore a strip off” that teacher, educating him as to what an experienced skater Michael was and that “he could skate circles around everyone else!” Mike was so impressed that Grampa Gordie was so protective of him and displayed such a fierce sense of justice! Those kids always felt in good hands when Gordie was in charge. His loving actions will forever be remembered  ❤️

For our family, a holiday hadn’t really officially arrived until the doorbell chimed, the front door was opened, and there would be the sight of a smiling, gregarious Gord on our porch, with yet another delivery of Naomi’s famous frosted cupcakes in hand. Like clockwork. Always. 

With family updates and neighbourhood gossip exchanged, Gord would insist he be on his way as Naomi was keeping him busy with yet more cupcake deliveries to be made. And yes, Naomi definitely did keep Gord busy and our family was grateful she did. We moved away from Kitsilano a couple of years ago.  But when we reminisce, our neighbourhood memories always include thoughts of holiday cupcakes, Naomi, and Gord. 

Some things are truly timeless.

My heart is filled with wonderful memories of my Uncle Gordie! From the times he spent all day as our tour guide teaching me about Vancouver. Showing me places where he and my father hung out and the animated stories that were made!  He was always kind and thoughtful in his welcoming my family into his home! I grew up watching from a place of admiring his love for family and his love for my most favorite Aunt nomie💞I pray that she will always feel his presence! He loved her dearly.  They were the example of watch love is about. He also adored his grandchildren. They made him so proud. But it was my cousin Charlie that he was most like! He taught her the gift of giving and that gift of laughter! It was this gift that shines so bright in all my memories. He will always be missed! He led a honest life! He was a great Husband, father, grandfather,brother-in-law and uncle !! I’ve told so many that if you have ever watched the movie” A Christmas story”, then you can see uncle Gordie as the father! I laugh every time! Thank you for the love you always showed me my sisters and the generosity that was so appreciated! I love you! I’ll miss you!i know you are at peace❤️Wendy

Grampa Gordie, as my 5 children referred to him, was a legend in his own time. He, along with Grandma Nomi, were emergency backup entrusted with the care of any or all of my children if need be. I feel so fortunate to have met Gordie, through my good friend, Charlie and over the years, truly feel like a part of the family, with unconditional love. Gordie was a very unique personality…had a heart of gold, a glib tongue,  a loyalty to those who he considered his friend, a fluency in sarcasm and an undying confidence…he never met a mirror he didn’t like! RIP. We will always love you.  xo

 ❤️ You know, it was always great to sit and chat with Gord, who often reminded me so much of my own dad, Fred. 
Gord was a real character, who usually kept us all engaged and so often in stitches with his stories of Charlie & Christy …well, mostly Charlie!
I saw a loving and protective husband, father and grandfather, keeping his family together and always on their toes. 
He will definitely be missed, but we’re happy knowing that he is still with us and able to keep an eye on everyone, now from above. 
Just wondering what kind of trouble Gord and Fred may be getting up to!!!❤️

For me and my sisters, our  “Uncle Gordie” was a very special member of our family. As children, we loved it when he, Auntie Naomi and their daughter Charlie would visit. He always wore a kind smile and his distinctive and infectious laugh would get the whole family laughing. He was a wonderful and supportive friend to our late father, Ernie, who loved him dearly. Godspeed Uncle Gordie! Please say hi to Dad when you see him! 

Uncle Gordie, thank you for all the memories, laughs and ongoing connection to my grandpa Ernie. The stories and knowledge you passed along to me I hold dear and will never forget. Looking back, it is so special the friendship you   and my grandpa had and I can only imagine the trouble the two of you are getting into up there!    Love you and your family lots! We’ll be sending you (the best dressed man) a special toast this Christmas!

Gordie, bless his soul, was never at a loss for words, and never a dull moment when he had the floor.
He was always impeccably dressed, whatever the occasion.
That, in a nutshell, is the Gordie I will always remember.  A dear, dear friend who will never be forgotten.
My condolences go out to Naomi, who has a heart of gold, and  Charlene and family.

Uncle Gordie has been a part of my life for as early as I can remember ( Dad’s best friend.) He was always the positive, fun adult in the room. He and Naomi were always there for us ( Charlene too!) Really very blessed to have had him ( and them) as “members” of our family. Will really miss you, Gordie- and your great dry chuckle. Have fun with Dad in heaven with white golf shoes on. Dear Naomi, Charlie and family.  I just heard the sad news of our dear friend Gordie's passing, and have such heavy hearts.  Gordie was the best neighbor and friend, and always welcomed us in his life.  The stories he could tell would entertain us for days, and his love held us all these years - he was someone very special to know.  

I know how painful this time is for all of you, but may the loving memories of Gordie help you over the next days, weeks and months.  We are are thinking of you, and hold you in our hearts.
