

Helene Penner passed away on February 1, 2026 at 101 years of age at Fair Haven Homes Burnaby Lodge in Vancouver, BC. She was born February 29th, 1924 in Burburka, Ukraine. Helene moved to Canada in 1948 and worked as a nurse at St Paul's hospital for her entire career.
She is predeceased by her father Peter Penner in 1937 and her mother Helena (nee Koop) Penner in 1976. Her brother Rudy passed in 2019. Helene never married, but had extended family and friends who loved her. Those left to mourn her passing are as follows. Harry and Martha (nee Peters) Koop and their children, Ruth Koop; Debbie and Rob Kliewer and their children Maggie and Sam; Ben and Deborah (nee Plett) Koop and their children Geoffrey and Madeline. Rudy Penners children; Peter Penner, Viktor Penner, Georg Penner and Anna (nee Penner) Gert. Angela and Scott Alexander; Angela was a great help and friend to Helene during her later years. Marie Penner, Elenor Taves and many Penner relatives in Saskatchewan and Ontario. Friends from Sherbrooke Church and Southview Heights.
Helene Penner has always been Tante Leni to the Koop family. While a cousin to Harry, she was considered an Aunt to the whole family. Throughout her life, Helene loved gardening and flowers. You could always find some sort of plant/flower growing on her window ledge. She also loved her cheeses, especially on a piece of bread anytime of day. Tante Leni could not say no to chocolate either, and there was always some to share with visitors. She loved visiting with family and friends who came over, always making sure they knew they were welcome to come visit anytime!
Helen Penner's funeral and reception took place February 11, 2026 at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home and she was interred at Mountain View Cemetary. Condolences may be sent to the funeral home and they will pass them on to the Koop family.
