Born in 1925 in Paleohoraki, Greece – Passed away October 18, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Irene Lakoumentas — a loving, generous, and devoted woman whose kindness, faith, and gentle spirit touched all who knew her.
Born in 1925 in Paleohoraki, Greece, Irene moved to Nafpaktos, where she married and began her family. Together with her husband Vasilios, she lovingly raised two children, Joanna and Kosta.
In 1961, Irene and her family began a new chapter in Victoria, British Columbia, before settling in Vancouver in 1971. Throughout her life, she carried with her the warmth of her Greek heritage, her deep faith, and her unwavering devotion to family and community.
A devout patron of the Church, especially St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church and many others, Irene found great comfort and purpose in her faith. She was a loyal friend, a source of love and support, and an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
Irene is survived by her loving daughter Joanna and son Kosta, as well as her beloved grandchildren Theodore, Irene and her husband John, Vasili (Billy), George, and Catherine. She was also a proud and adoring great-grandmother to Charlotte and Olivia.
