With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Yong-Sik Suk.
Loving father, son, brother, uncle, and a dear friend to many, he valiantly battled stage-four brain cancer and outlived his prognosis by four years. James passed away surrounded by family at the Vancouver Hospice on April 19, 2022, at age 51.
On January 14, 1971, James was born in Seoul, Korea, to Sook-Ja Suk and the late Jong-Yoon Suk. He moved to Vancouver at age four and graduated from UBC in 1993 with a Bachelor of Commerce. With expertise in financial consulting and SR&ED (Scientific Research & Experimental Development) operations, he found success in numerous firms, including the financial consultancies Alma and LFG Advisory.
James was a unique man with a thankful heart and soul. His love and devotion for his family and friends were at the core of his being. From the regular family gatherings and barbecues to the immense pre-covid poker nights, he always went above and beyond to live his best life with everyone around him. James was a great, sweet, clever and wise man. He was an inspiration to us all.
His dancing and singing would be the centrepiece of every event he held. Inspired by his love of the band Rush, James was a passionate amateur drummer. With the marriage to Lucie Martineau, he would see the living representation of his legacy of love and devotion when Hugo, his Boy Wonder, was born in 2004.
He leaves behind his beloved son, Hugo Suk, in his graduating year at high school, along with his loving mother, Sook-Ja Suk, the eldest brother, Jon Suk, nephew, Aidan Suk, elder sister, Lissandra Suk, brother-in-law, David James, niece, Christen James, and Lucie Martineau, Hugo’s mother.
