Jane Guest Obituary
GUEST - Jane Elizabeth Guest died peacefully at the Sunrise at Killarney Care Home in Vancouver on Nov 11, 2025. She was 94 years old.
Jane was born in England in 1931. She attended University College Dublin graduating with a degree in comparative literature. She moved to Canada in 1957 and settled in Vancouver where she met and married Jack Guest. They raised their 3 children in Vancouver. Jane loved British Columbia particularly the west coast of Vancouver Island, the northern Gulf Islands and the Pemberton Valley. Jane worked in downtown Vancouver for the Office of the Administrator estate department. Upon retirement she made the permanent move to Denman Island. Jane loved travelling, walking, gardening and reading.
Jane was an avid volunteer on Denman. She dedicated several years to producing the Flagstone community news, fundraising for Denman Conservancy and working for Denman Senior’s Housing. She could be seen working at the Dora Drinkwater Library, Denman art shows, many seniors events and the Denman house and garden tour. She billeted musicians during concert series and authors during the Denman Readers and Writers Festival. She participated in island life through the seniors centre, the Wednesday Walkers, bridge club and book club. Denman Island truly gave her the retirement she dreamed of. Her family wishes to send their thanks to the caregivers, friends and neighbours who made her life on Denman so fulfilling.
Jane is survived by her brother Raymond Pelly and her three children; Margaret Guest, John Guest and Maire Guest and 4 grandchildren; Sarah, Kaji, Keenan and Chikara and 2 great grandchildren; Hailey and Mia. At her request there will be no service.
Echo By Christina Rossetti
Come to me in the silence of the night;
Come in the speaking silence of a dream;
Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright
As sunlight on a stream;
Come back in tears,
O memory, hope, love of finished years.
O dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet,
Whose wakening should have been in Paradise,
Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet;
Where thirsting longing eyes
Watch the slow door
That opening, letting in, lets out no more.
Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live
My very life again though cold in death:
Come back to me in dreams, that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low
As long ago, my love, how long ago.
